So last week I ruined a perfectly good merino wool sweater. Threw it in with the regular wash because I wasn't paying attention, and it came out looking like it was made for a toddler. My sister told me about this trick where you soak shrunken wool in lukewarm water with hair conditioner for like 30 minutes, then gently stretch it back while it's wet. Sounds absurd but... it actually worked? Not 100% back to original size but definitely wearable again. The whole thing made me curious about why natural fibers are so temperamental. Cotton, wool, linen – they all have these scales or fibers that basically lock together when you hit them with heat and agitation. Meanwhile my polyester gym shirts could probably survive a nuclear blast. Now I'm that person who actually reads care labels. Never thought I'd see the day.
